Best Free Programs for New Windows Computers

What are some of the necessary apps and things to get for a Windows Computer?

A secure internet browser.

One of the first things I download is always the Brave Browser.
A Chromium based browser with advanced security features.

Antivirus Program

After installing your updates, Windows will recommend to install antivirus program in addition to the built in Windows Defender Program.
A popular one is McAffee Antivirus, but it is not free.
Malwarebytes is a good free alternative. I have it set up to remind me to scan manually once per week. Since I use Brave Browser I don't need the extra features such as browser protection, so I skip this during install. I just stick to the free virus scan (after the 2 weeks of premium runs out) and hope for the best.

Computer Maintenance

CCleaner is a useful little tool I've always enjoyed.
Helps you with cleaning 'crap', duplicate files, and leftovers from programs you no longer use.

Office Tools

A windows computer comes with Microsoft Office but it requires you to be online to access your documents, unless you upgrade it.
A free alternative is OpenOffice (also known as NeoOffice).

Then it's time for my personal favorites apps.
Steam - Where I have collected and bought a lot of video games over the years.
Gimp - A free photo editing software (free photoshop).
ShotCut - Free Video Editing software.
Blender - 3D editing and modeling
