My Sun Worship, Introduction
Once we unlock the secrets of the sun, we will have boundless energy, and utopia is nigh.
"You say we worship the sun, so do you!" -Tertullian
One year of course means one trip around the sun, so yearly rituals are tied to the sun whether directly or indirectly.
Winter Solstice celebrates the "rebirth of the sun," this marks the shortest day and the promise of longer days ahead.
Christmas and Yule, are tied to this.
Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, often celebrated with fire and light rituals.
Many cultures have festivals tied to the harvest, marking a successful growing season. Spring festivals like Beltane and Holi celebrate fertility, growth, and the return of life.
Your birthday and new years eve celebrates one more trip around the sun, congrats! 🥂
But I'm interested in writing about the modern sun. So this won't be a history lesson of sun worship, which has been written about many times.
The Birth of the Sun
The Sun is a self-created entity, born from the stellar material in our local region of the galaxy.
The whole solar system was likely formed at the same time, with planets starting as hot molten-like balls, establishing their order around the largest (by far) object, the sun.
From our geocentric perspective, the sun is of course born every morning and dies at night.
The terminator zone, where light meets dark, is where the golden hour happens (sunrise and sunset), and it's a beautiful sight indeed.
With a "God's-eye view", or flying very fast, it should be possible to surf the golden hour to see all the diurnal animals around the planet greet the sun. And hear the birds singing the dawn chorus.
Miracles of the sun
Since ancient times, it often happened through researching the sun that we end up discovering something groundbreaking, often paradigm-shifting to our reality.
The oldest book in astronomy in India is said to be inspired by visions received from the sun God Surya, describing how the solar system works.
In the west, heliocentrism was discovered by Copernicus through his own observations and calculations, but perhaps there was a voila moment as depicted in the famous artwork "Conversations with God" by Jan Matejko.
The sun has taught us how to grow food out of decay. We've discovered photosynthesis; not only are plants powered by sunlight but they create oxygen thanks to their solar power.
Besides growing giga-tonnes of vegetation every day, it also 'carries the water back up the streams', cleaning and filtering it.
Sun's most likely the source of all life on Earth. Its the light of the world!
An old caravan story said "The sun rises from his oriental couch, and wooingly kisses the dew drops from the face of his fair bride the Earth".
I picture that is how the first lifeform was conceived.🌻
Other interesting discovery facts
Newton's prism experiment demonstrated that white sunlight is actually made up of seven visible colors (like a rainbow). This led to advancements in optics, physics, chemistry, perception, and the study of color in nature.
Infrared radiation was discovered in 1800 by Sir William Herschel by accident while measuring the temperature of the different colors of sunlight.
Helium was Discovered through analysis of the Sun's spectrum during a total solar eclipse, before it was found on Earth.
What's next for a modern sun worshiper?
Does the sun care if we praise the sun? Probably not. Plants are more in tune with the sun, if only we could ask them. Many people don't seem to realize that if we lose our forests, we are no longer creating oxygen. Some countries have already lost as much as 96% of their forests and wildlife, and are basically receiving air like a charity from the wind from the neighboring countries while only producing and exporting co2.
Luckily we still have the amazon jungle as the "lungs of the world", for now.
Get some sun on your belly.
Sun gazing is an ancient practice which involves staring at the sun during the golden hour (sunrise or sunset) when the sun's rays are less hostile. Don't do it!
In my experience, it's the solar plexus that needs sunlight. Hope this helps!
Splendor Solis
The sun itself can be quite artistic, have you seen how it paints the moon in many colors?
And the sky too, you might see; blue, purple, golden, and the orange colored sky, are not to be missed.
Other phenomenon to see:
A parhelion. Halo. Sundogs. A rainbow. These things are now understood better. In ancient times they were quite confusing phenomenon and often seen as omens or a sign from the gods.
A Poem:
Glorious Sunshine! Oh, radiant Day,
What healing, what life is in your ray!
To bask in your warmth is pure delight,
If this were all, the world might just be right.
To sit in your calm, sweet rays so fine—
It would be a world too perfect, too divine
For anyone to want to depart
For the gloom and the tomb that death imparts.
Maybe we have a shared love for music? Here's a playlist I've made with some Sun Praising Music, the Sun Worship Playlist. you might find some of the tracks memorable
Check out the merch in my Redbubble store. Got some sun-themed art, the coolest Sol Invictus t-shirt, and more!
